It's the cheapest product in the basket and the one that changes the most things. However, you still need to choose the right one — a bad choice can literally destroy a silicone device.
Water-based: the default choice
A water-based lubricant is compatible with absolutely everything: latex condoms, silicone toys, glass, metal, ABS. It is the only one that presents no risk.
It is easy to clean, does not stain sheets, and respects intimate flora. Its only drawback: it dries faster. Just reapply a little, or add a few drops of water to reactivate it.
Choose it if you are using a silicone sex toy, a condom, or if you don't know what to choose. In 90% of cases, it's the right answer.
Silicone-based: long-lasting, but beware
A silicone lubricant glides longer, does not dry out, and is water-resistant — making it ideal for use in the shower or bath. The texture is silkier.
The trap: silicone attacks silicone. Used on a silicone toy, it can make it sticky, dull, and porous — irreversibly. You lose the device.
Choose it if you are not using a silicone toy, or only with glass or metal objects.
Oil-based: to be avoided in most cases
Oil-based lubricants and oils degrade latex: the condom can break. They are also more difficult to remove and can upset the intimate flora.
Reserve them for massage, on the skin, without a condom or toy.
The table to remember
| Water-based | Silicone-based | Oil-based | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Silicone toys | yes | no | no |
| Condoms | yes | yes | no |
| Glass and metal | yes | yes | yes |
| In the shower | less suitable | yes | yes |

What about stimulating lubricants?
Warming effect, cooling effect, vibrating effect: these are classic lubricants enriched with active ingredients that create an additional sensation. It's fun and often surprising, but start with a small amount — the sensation can be stronger than expected.
If you have sensitive skin, test on your forearm first.
How much to use?
Much more than you think. Most people use too little. A pea-sized amount is not enough: don't hesitate to reapply as soon as it feels sticky.
